Workshop - “Case Writing”

Introduction:

Business cases are increasingly used by business faculty members across the world in order to bring real-world experiences to their classes and also to develop important managerial skills in their students. The students typically find case classes engaging and stimulating leading to better learning of knowledge and skills needed by practicing managers. On account of the popularity of case-based pedagogy faculty members are often interested in writing cases themselves to capture the realities of local business. This workshop is aimed at providing faculty members first-hand experience in initiating a business case in their area of interest and completing it for class use. The experience thus gained would instill in faculty members the skills and confidence to continue to write cases to enrich their class room teaching.

Topics Covered:

  1. Advantages and Challenges Faced in Case Writing.
  2. Important Steps in Case Writing.
  3. Case Structure, Teaching Note and Case Plan.
  4. Completion of case and release requirements.

Topics will be covered using local examples of successful and unsuccessful case writing efforts at various universities. For working on the first draft of the case and its TN, participants would be expected to bring data from the first interview of their potential case. The Case Plan will be completed during the workshop while the case will be completed via remote supervision after the workshop.

  1. Better appreciation of the importance of case writing.
